Gun found in apartment

A man was arrested after police seized a handgun and ammunition from a local apartment while investigating a domestic dispute. The man, 23, was accused of assaulting a woman during an argument Aug. 25. Police were called, and told about the weapon in the home.

Officers also found a large amount of cash, liquid codeine and drug paraphernalia. A warrant was issued for a suspect’s arrest on Aug. 28, and he was located Aug. 30.

The man, from Gatineau, Que., was charged with assault with a weapon, assault, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, careless storage of a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and possession of codeine for the purpose of trafficking.

He appeared in court Aug. 31 and remains in custody.

Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm and possession of prohibited or restricted firearm/ammunition charges were also laid after a further investigation.

He appeared on court on the new charges Monday and was to appear in court again Tuesday.

His name was not released by city police to protect the woman’s identity.
