Gun found in apartment

A man was arrested after police seized a handgun and ammunition from a local apartment while investigat­ing a domestic dispute. The man, 23, was accused of assaulting a woman during an argument Aug. 25. Police were called, and told about the weapon in the home.

Officers also found a large amount of cash, liquid codeine and drug parapherna­lia. A warrant was issued for a suspect’s arrest on Aug. 28, and he was located Aug. 30.

The man, from Gatineau, Que., was charged with assault with a weapon, assault, unauthoriz­ed possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, careless storage of a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and possession of codeine for the purpose of traffickin­g.

He appeared in court Aug. 31 and remains in custody.

Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm and possession of prohibited or restricted firearm/ammunition charges were also laid after a further investigat­ion.

He appeared on court on the new charges Monday and was to appear in court again Tuesday.

His name was not released by city police to protect the woman’s identity.
