AAA Minor Midgets win

The Peterborou­gh Foley Bus Lines Minor Midget AAA Petes won their round robin division and advanced to the Sweet 16 eliminatio­n round at the Toronto Titans Minor Midget Prospect Tournament in early September, out of a pool of 53 top Canadian and American teams.

Opening games for the season saw the Petes take a close 3-2 loss to the Kingston Frontenacs in their first away game and a decisive 5-2 win over Clarington in their home opener.

On Saturday, the Petes played a strong game against the Whitby Wildcats, taking an early twogoal lead with goals from Jack Falkner and Dane Young and assists from J.R. Avon, Mason Tardiff, Tyler Savard and Sam Giacalone. Whitby replied with three goals to win 3-2, but not without a strong fight from the entire Petes team, with a solid game in net by Ayden Bulmer. The Minor Midget AAA Petes faced the Markham Waxers on Monday in Markham (result unavailabl­e) and play their next home game against the Barrie Jr. Colts on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Evinrude Centre.
