Chuck-a-puck at Petes game to benefit tornado victims
Rookie Peterborough Petes goaltender Tye Austin is asking Petes fans to lend a helping hand in the wake of the Sept. 21 storm that ravaged Dunrobin, his Ottawa suburb.
Fans are invited to take part in a second intermission chuck-apuck when the Petes host the defending OHL champion Hamilton Bulldogs at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the Memorial Centre.
The proceeds will be directed to the Ottawa 67’s and OSEG Foundation.
All funds raised will be distributed to those in need following the storm, according to a press release from the Petes.
Prizes for the chuck-a-puck include a CCM Super Tacks 2.0 pro stock hockey stick (valued at $319.99 plus tax) and a Petes prize pack.
Austin, who resides in Dunrobin when not in Peterborough, was inspired to help give back to his community after learning that many family friends were affected.
“It’s been hard seeing photos and hearing stories from home and not being there to help,” Austin stated.
“Even though I’ve only been in Peterborough a short time, I can already tell what a great community this is and I’m so thankful that Petes fans are willing to help give back to the community that I grew up in.”
A powerful storm, which spawned numerous tornadoes, hit Ottawa and Gatineau on Sept. 21, leaving hundreds of thousands without power and damaging more than 50 homes in Dunrobin, a majority of which will need to be rebuilt.
Tickets for Saturday’s game are available through the PMC Collins Barrow Box Office in person, over the phone at 705-7433561 and online at http://bit.ly/Sept29vsHAM
