Cody Crowley’s next fight will be in Sydney, Nova Scotia but Peterborough fans will have a chance to watch him on pay-per-view.

The Douro native and undefeated welterweight will fight Nov. 9 at Centre 200 on a card headlined by former world light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal. Crowley, who is 15-0-0 with seven knockouts, is tentatively scheduled to face Mexico’s Uriel Hernandez who possesses a 14-5-0 record with eight knockouts.

“It will be a big privilege to be a co-main event for Jean Pascal,” said Crowley, from his Las Vegas training centre on Friday night.

Crowley just returned to the gym on Monday after being off for a month with an illness. He last fought July 14 when he knocked out Mexico’s Michi Munoz in two rounds in Belleville.

“This opportunity just came up,” he said.

“We got a call and six weeks is plenty of time to get in shape and get ready. We were going to fight in Boston the week after this fight but when we got a call to fight in Canada, and for it to be available on pay-per-view for people, I thought this would be the best way to get in front of the most people’s eyes as possible. It would also be a good gauge of my fan base seeing how many payper-view buys I can get from a fan-base in Canada and here in the States.”

Crowley doesn’t know a lot about his opponent.

“This is like a stay busy fight,” he said. “I know they’ve thrown a couple of opponents around. I haven’t signed a contract yet but I’ve said yes to everybody they’ve thrown in front of me. Whoever they put in front of me I’m going to take him out.”

With his last bout coming eight weeks after his biggest win to date May 5 against Kevin Higson, at the Peterborough Memorial Centre, Crowley said he took a self-imposes six-week break. That break extended another month when he got sick and couldn’t shake it. He returned to the gym needing to shed more than 20 pounds.

“I’ve been off approximately 2 1/2 months which is a long time,’ he said. “It’s definitely going to be a crunch. I’ve got a lot of weight to lose.”

If all goes well, he’s hoping to return to the PMC early in the new year to launch what he hopes will be a big year in 2019.

“The end of next year is looking like we should almost be right there, If not there, for some sort of small world title fight,” Crowley said.

He’ll notify his fans through media and social media when the PPV details are finalized for Sydney, he said.
