Election day draws near in Keene

- PAT MARCHEN KeeneNews@nexicom.net

Did your voting information arrive in the mail yet? Ours did. If you do not receive your instructions on voting in the Otonabee South Monaghan municipal election, you can check via the links on the township website to see if you are on the voters’ list.

The election is Oct. 22, but voting starts by computer and phone Oct. 9. There is no option to mail in your ballot or vote at a cardboard polling booth.

Pumpkinfest

Keene Pumpkinfest is Oct. 13. It’s a fun event for the whole family with lots for kids to see and do.

If you are looking for it on the web, make sure you get the right Keene. A college town of the same name in New Hampshire hosted a pumpkin festival for years. It was quite the opposite of the familyoriented Keene, Ontario Pumpkinfest. Google “Keene Pumpkin Fest Riots 2014” and you’ll see what I mean.

Masons move

Keene Masons have resettled into their new lodge in Millbrook.

An Extinguishing of the Lights ceremony was held in May at the last local meeting of Keene Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 374 G.R.C. On Sept. 20, a Rekindling of the Lights ceremony was held in Millbrook, with Keene Lodge and Grand Lodge members in attendance.

Robert McBride is a past Master and the historian of the Keene Lodge and the Peterborough District. He has done a fine job of documenting its history.
