A quick check of the 2018 point standings will tell the story. Peterborough Speedway’s Jiffy Lube Mini Stock field is loaded with talent.

Ryan Oosterholt may have clinched the track championship by almost 80 points over his closest competition, but he was just one of more than 30 different drivers to score points in the highly competitive division.

With the 26th annual running of the Autumn Colours Classic – presented by Lucas Oil Products – this weekend, the Saturday night regulars – along with teams from across the province – will be stepping up to the plate looking to score a win in the prestigious event.

“I’d put our bunch up against the best of the best any day of the week, but everyone knows that with a show like Autumn Colours, anything can happen,” said Peterborough Speedway owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse.

“With so many different tracks represented, there’s no telling how things can play out. In 2017, our local runners took half of the top 10 finishing spots.”

His first season of action in the Jiffy Lube Mini Stock division left his confidence battered and bruised, but Kent Missons returned to the weekly wars with a new car and a fresh attitude in 2018. Heading into the 26th running of Autumn Colours with several strong runs and a feature event win on his resume, Missons says he’s hoping to build on the momentum that saw him finish fifth in the regular season point standings.

“Compared to last year, we had an incredible season,” Kent Missons, the driver of the No. 10K machine said. “The crew gave me a strong piece week after week and I was thrilled with the way things worked-out through the entire schedule. This will be my first career Autumn Colours Classic start and the first time I’ve ever run an invitational event of any kind. It’ll be a tremendous learning experience and I’m looking forward to every lap we’ll run during the weekend.”

With close to 10 racing divisions in competition over the three-day Thanksgiving Weekend, the Autumn Colours Classic presented by Lucas Oil Products has something for everyone.

This year’s edition gets underway Friday with the first round of qualifying for the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Super Stock, Trailers Plus Ontario Legend and Modified divisions. Also on the agenda will be the Young Guns Races – presented by APC Auto Parts – for the Mini Stock and Super Stock classes.

Pit gates will open at 10 a.m., with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 5 p.m. The weekend’s first green flag waves at 6 p.m.
