MILITARIA SHOW AND SALE OCT. 13
The Peterborough Armoury will be hosting a Militaria Show and Sale on Oct. 13. Starting at 8:30 a.m., and running to 2 p.m., it will be displaying various kinds of military collectibles. Items such as uniforms, medals, helmets, and equipment’s will be available to peruse and purchase. The items come from time periods spanning back several hundred years, from Canada and other countries. Prices range from a few dollars to hundreds, depending on the item and the vendor.
The show was created to raise money for the Regimental Benevolent Fund, to assist veterans. Recent money raised has been given to the three Cadet Corps. This year, the Yellow Ribbon Campaign will receive funds as well. The campaign puts together care and comfort packages for Canadian troops.
The Sea, Army, and Air Cadet Corps, as well as the Hasting Prince Edward Regiment will have tables to give information on their organizations. Also in attendance will be the Ontario Miniature Model Society will be presenting every child under 12 with a free miniature soldier.
The show is a non-profit event, run by volunteers. Admission is $5 per person, or $15 per family. Children under 12 are admitted for free, if accompanied by an adult. For those interested in vending, the 6 x 2.5 tables are $20. TRENT HOSTS WRITERS READING SERIES
The 30th annual season of Writers Reading Series is here. Each year, the event is hosted by Trent’s English literature department. It brings together readers and the authors, giving the community an opportunity to meet and converse with the minds behind popular poems, essays, short stories, and novels. Readings are held each week at 7 p.m., in the Scott House Junior Common Room at Catharine Parr Trail College.
Upcoming authors are David Adams Richards. Richards is a well-known and award winning author from New Brunswick, and will be reading on Oct. 11. The week after, on Oct 17, Toronto author Dennis
Lee, known for Alligator Pie, will be reading. Other upcoming authors include Naben Ruthnum, Richard Harrison, Catherine Leroux, JC Sutcliffe, and Michael Redhill.
