Internet voting in Peterborough is starting next week – on Tuesday, the day after Thanksgiving.

Although the municipal election is on Oct. 22, advance polls and internet voting get started earlier.

Here’s what you need to know:

Internet voting

This is your first opportunity to cast a ballot: internet voting starts on Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. You can vote from a computer, smartphone or tablet.

You can vote online all the way up until 8 p.m. on election day, Oct. 22. But if you want to vote late, be sure to register a little in advance: you only have until 7 p.m. on election day to register yourself as an online elector.

To register, go to www.peterboroughvotes.ca and register using the voter ID found on your Voter Information Card.

Once your registration is approved, you will receive an email with a link to your PIN, which you can then use to vote online.

Advance voting day

Advance voting day is Oct. 12. There will be five voting locations open that Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The locations are: Evinrude Centre on Monaghan Rd., Westdale United Church on Sherbrooke St., Peterborough Public Library on Aylmer St., Peterborough Lions Community Centre on Burnham St. and Activity Haven on Barnardo Ave.

Bring your Voter Information Card and some ID showing your name and qualifying address.

Advance accessible voting

An advance accessible voting location with assistive technology will be open at City Hall from Oct. 15 to 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day that week.

Electors who have disabilities

can choose to use audio ballots, paddle controls or sipand-puff technology to cast their ballot.

Voter information cards

Registered electors should have received a Voter Information Card in the mail last week. If you didn’t get yours, there are a couple of ways to find out whether you are on the list:

• Go to www.peterboroughvotes.ca and use the Am I On the Voters’ List?’ tool.

• Call the Election Hotline at City Hall: 705-742-7777, ext. 1022.

If you’re not on the list, you have a couple of options for having your name added in advance of election day:

• Visit the clerk’s department at City Hall in person.

• Fill in the online registration at www.peterboroughvotes.ca and go to the Update My Information tab within the Am I On the Voters List? page.
