Wenjack doc airs Oct. 12
CBC-TV will air a special next week that will retell the story of Chanie Wenjack, the 12-year-old Anishnaabe boy who died in northwestern Ontario in 1966 while trying to walk hundreds of kilometres through the woods to his family’s home after escaping the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School in Kenora.
The Wenjack Theatre at Trent University in Peterborough was named in his honour. Earlier this year, Trent established an Indigenous studies school and named it the Chanie Wenjack School of Indigenous Studies.
