Chiefs shut out Eagles

LAKEFIELD — The Lakefield Hendren Funeral Home Chiefs shut out the Clarington Eagles

7-0 on Tuesday night at the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre. Jeff Hawthorne led the charge up front with three goals. Zac Treen had two goals, Ryan Shaughness­y scored his first Junior C goal and Dalton Smith also scored.

Jesse Merrill had three assists. Jordan MacLean, Evan Marlowe, Tarren Jank, Ethan Young and Smith had single assists.

Michael Christie made 35 saves for his first shutout of the season. With the win, the defending Schmalz Cup champion Chiefs improve to 5-1 for second place in the PJHL East Orr Division.

Next action for the Chiefs (5-1) is Saturday when they take on the Campbellfo­rd Rebels in Warkworth starting at 7:30 p.m. while the North Kawartha Knights (6-1) will host the Picton Pirates at 7:25 p.m. Saturday in Apsley.
