Missy Knott to perform at awards gala
The Redpath Singers and Missy Knott will both be performing at the Peterborough-Kawartha Women’s Leadership Awards Gala.
The inaugural awards ceremony takes place Oct. 27 at Showplace Performance Centre. It’s from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Knott is a musician from Curve Lake First Nation and Redpath Singers are a group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth.
Peterborough-Kawartha MP Maryam Monsef created the Women’s Leadership Awards to celebrate the many women who serve as leaders in the community.
She announced the new awards during the Rural Women’s Summit in March, calling for nominations.
Dozens of local women were nominated by their peers for their work in public service, advocacy and volunteerism, as well as for professional achievements.
Monsef said it came as no surprise that so many men, women and youth nominated such a long list of outstanding women deserving of recognition.
“The nominators are just as inspiring as the women they nominated; men and women from across Peterborough-Kawartha sharing stories of great women in our community,” Monsef stated in a release.
The nominees won’t be announced until the gala but there will be some teasers leading up to the event.
Videos of nominators will be posted on Monsef’s social media accounts with the hashtag #PKWomenLeading. The videos will also be shared on the Peterborough-Kawartha Women’s Leadership Awards Gala Facebook page.
The award ceremony takes place during Women’s History Month in Canada.
The event is open to the public and it’s free to attend.
