Poetry, games and more at libraries
There will be a Poetry Night at the Lakefield library at 7 p.m. on Oct. 25. Bring your favourite poem to share. It will be a comfortable, open evening to discuss and enjoy poetry of all kinds.

Do you love to play Scrabble? Join like-minded Scrabble lovers for some fun and social word play at the library’s monthly Scrabble Club at 2 p.m. on Oct. 30. Register in advance by calling the Bridgenorth Library at 705-292-5065, or email hjamieson@mypubliclibrary.ca.
The Alzheimer Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland and Haliburton will be presenting a free session called “Heads Up for Healthier Brains” on Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Bridgenorth Community Hall, next to the library at 836 Charles Street. Join Kathleen and Corny the Squirrel for a Saturday morning full of songs, stories, and snacks from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 20. No registration is required. Drop in to the Regency Retirement Home in Lakefield, located at 90 Concession Street. This program runs on the third Saturday of every month until April.
Drop-in and visit with the educators from the Codemobile on Oct. 19 at the Bridgenorth Library from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. where various tech stations will be set up around the library for children to explore, including hands-on experience with MaKey MaKeys, Mozilla X-Ray Goggles, Little
Bits and more. All ages are welcome.
Chemung Lions
The Chemung Lake Lions will present the Melvin Jones Award for humanitarian services to Faith Dixion on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Lions Club House on Ennis Road in Ennismore.
Lakefield Youth Unlimited
Lakefield Youth Unlimited is celebrating their 15-year anniversary. There will be a fundraising dinner at the Lakefield Legion on Oct. 18, with punch being served at 5:30 p.m. and a chicken dinner starting at 6 p.m. Spaces are limited, so RSVP by Oct. 11 by phone at 705-651-0156 or email at lakefield@youthunlimitedkaw.com.
St. John the Baptist
The Anglican Church Women will have a fundraiser roast beef dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 2. The cost is $20 per person, and tickets will be sold in advance from the church office at 705-652-8302. Seating will be limited to 70 people.
Fairview United Church
Fairview United Church will be having a ham dinner on Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. at the church. Tickets for adults are $15 each, and for children ages 6-12 tickets are $5 each, and there is no charge for preschoolers. For reservations, call 705-742-1328. The church is located at 724 Centre line (just north of the zoo).
Douro-Dummer Public Library
The Friends of the DDPL will host a Winter Decoration Workshop on Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. at the library.
