Virtual bras aim to push up campaign tally

Annual collection of bras to benefit Canadian Cancer Society continues until Oct. 25

If you can’t part with any of your bras, but want to support Bras Around the Building, now’s your chance.

Virtual Bras are now available. The list includes everything from training bras ($10) to pushups ($50) to contribute.

Bras Around the Building is an annual fundraising campaign, hosted by Country 105 and Energy 99.7, for the Canadian Cancer Society.

For every gently used bra donated to the cause, Merrett Home Hardware Building Centre donates $1 to the campaign.

Bras can be donated at several locations in the city until Oct. 25.

The following day, bras will be strung together around the exterior of the radio stations’ building, with help from Peterborough Fire Services.

The bras will stay up until Oct. 29 as a symbol of support for women battling breast cancer, to honour survivors and to remember those who’ve lost their battle. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Bras Around the Building started in 2011, to raise awareness about breast cancer. Soon after, it became a fundraiser for CCS.

Funds support breast cancer screening and detection, as well as services cancer patients use every day.

Since becoming a fundraiser, more than $120,000 has been raised through the campaign.

Last year, about 7,146 bras were donated and draped around the George Street studios of the radio stations.

When all is said and done, the bras are then donated to shelters or organizations that support women in need.

Bras can be dropped off at the following locations:

• My Left Breast, 203 Simcoe St.

• The Co-operators, 260 Milroy Dr., Unit 3.

• Canadian Cancer Society of Peterborough and District, 750 The Kingsway, Unit 2.
