Candidate’s place on Ward 1 ballot makes reader wonder
Residents of Peterborough's south end should be suspicious of Bob Hall's motivation to run for councillor in Otonabee Ward 1.
Mr. Hall is a resident of Peterborough's north end who represented Northcrest Ward for 17 years. In 2014, he left municipal politics in a failed attempt to become the Liberal Party nominee in the last federal election. Now he wishes to return to city council. But, rather than contesting a seat in his home ward, he has parachuted into Otonabee Ward One.
Why is he abandoning the people of Northcrest who he represented for many years? Is it because he feels that his chances of winning a seat in Northcrest are slim? If so, that's a poor reason to run in another ward. Candidates should choose a ward because they fully understand the concerns of its residents and wish to stand up for their interests at city hall, not because it offers an easier path to getting elected.
Mr. Hall claims that serving community is his priority, but one suspects that he is more dedicated to serving his own political ambition. The citizens of Otonabee Ward deserve better.
