Coyotes return Hayton to Sault Ste. Marie Hounds

-

Peterborough native Barrett Hayton was returned to the OHL’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds by the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday.

Hayton was drafted by the Coyotes fifth overall in the first round of the June NHL draft.

The six-foot-one, 190-pound centre remained with Arizona’s training camp when the Ontario Hockey League season opened and was named to the opening night roster for the Coyotes, with two Arizona centres, Christian Dvorak and Alex Galchenyuk, also nursing injuries to start the season.

But Hayton wound up not seeing any game action in Arizona’s first two games and through most of the pre-season after suffering an upper body injury in mid-September.

He took part in Saturday’s practice but was a scratch in Saturday night’s 1-0 loss to the Anaheim Ducks.
