Chiefs in first after win

LAKEFIELD — The Lakefield Hendren Funeral Home Chiefs held off a late rally by the Little Britain Merchants and hung on for a 4-3 win Tuesday at the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre. The Schmalz Cup defending champion Chiefs improved to 7-1 on the season to take sole possession of first place in the PJHL East Orr Division and remain unbeaten at home on the season. Lakefield led 4-1 after two periods, on two goals by Dalton Smith, a goal and two assists by Jeff Hawthorne and an unassisted goal by Ryan Shaughness­y. Jordan MacLean and Tarren Jank each had one assist.

The Chiefs hit the road Friday to face the Napanee Raiders, who are in first in the PJHL East Tod Division, on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and host the North Kawartha Knights next Tuesday at 7:25 p.m.
