VandenBroek finishes in 12th at Youth Olympics

Peterborough’s Grace VandenBroek finished 12th overall in the Youth Olympic Games junior women’s single sculls event after finishing fourth in the C final on Wednesday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Her time of 1:52:30 was the 14th fastest of the 24 rowers in the six final rounds.

Maria Sol Ordas of Argentina was first, Elin Lindroth of Sweden took silver and Greta Jaanson of Estonia took bronze in the A final.

VandenBroek, 18, a first-year student at Trent University, was the lone rower on Canada’s Youth Olympic Games team of 71 athletes competing in 37 sports. She was accompanied by coach Carol Love of Peterborough.
