Thanks to Ford government for deal

-

Kudos to Doug Ford and his Progressive Conservative Party for saving horse racing at Kawartha Downs! A legacy and an institution that has provided entertainment for so many people in the Peterborough area for decades. The decision to save racing and retain jobs at the Kawartha Downs Casino is one of the most "common sense" political decisions I have heard in years. They are actually listening and making an effort to act politically on peoples needs. Wonderful!

I cant understand why the OLG was moved from Kawartha in the first place. I do understand that there are water issues and upgrade requirements but when I compare these costs with the costs associated with a new building, infra-structure requirements etc., it just doesn't seem to make sense.

This doesn't include concerns around parking, traffic problems, etc., that are possibly associated with the new casino. Comparatively the old casino has ample room and minimal traffic issues. The other peripheral issues are the requirement to move the Peterborough welcoming center to the down town area. People joke in conversation regarding how the big motor homes and trailers look forward to go down town to be welcomed. Has common sense left many of our politicians?

I have to make a comment regarding the first 100 days of the PC's party leadership. I am truthfully non-partisan to any political party but it does appear that Doug Ford's approach to running this province takes into consideration people and a common sense approach to governing. Very refreshing to say the least. The other interesting noted difference is that Doug Ford actually makes himself available. He actually gets back to people and responds to their questions.

Quite different from previous government. A classic example was my inability to get a hold or any type of response from our previous MPP. I wrote an e-mail asking a simple question. My friend told me I wouldn't get a response and if I e-mailed again they would tell me they never received my first e mail. This is exactly what happened. After the second e-mail they told me they would get back to me in the next few days. I emphasize it was a simple question that I had asked. I never did receive a response.

Politicians, don't ever act like this if you want to make a career out of politics!

On another note I wish the media would start publicizing the accomplishments of political parties rather than tearing them down. Negative news is becoming nauseating. Positive news would energize readers rather than depressing them. Think about it. Ross Nightingale, Peterborough
