Hummingbir­ds landing at Ennismore library

The Ennismore and District Horticultu­ral Society will host Cindy Cartwright for a presentati­on on the Ontario Hummingbir­d Project. Cartwright is the founder and lead researcher of Hummingbir­ds Canada and studies hummingbir­ds in five provinces across Canada. Social time starts at 6:30 p.m. and the speaker will begin at 7 p.m. at the clubhouse, located at 551 Ennis Rd. in Ennismore (the lower level of the library in the Optimist Hall). Visitors are welcome.

Lakefield history

The Lakefield Historical Society will be hosting its next public gathering at 7 p.m. on Oct. 25 at the Lakefield Legion, located at 10 Nicholls Street. Hal Grunau, a long-time resident of the Stoney Lake area will talk about life on the lake. The talk will feature details about the lake’s geology, native life, European settlement, logging, steamboat era, canal system and the recreation­al and residentia­l changes that have happened up to the present day. All are welcome to attend.

Selwyn Public Library

There will be a Poetry Night at the Lakefield library at 7 p.m. on Oct. 25. Bring your favourite poem to share. It will be a comfortabl­e, open evening to discuss and enjoy poetry of all kinds.

The Alzheimer Society of Peterborou­gh, Kawartha Lakes, Northumber­land and Haliburton will be presenting a free session called “Heads Up for Healthier Brains” on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Bridgenort­h Community Hall, next to the library at 836 Charles Street. Join Kathleen and Corny the Squirrel for a Saturday morning full of songs, stories, and snacks from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. this Saturday. No registrati­on is required. Drop in to the Regency Retirement Home in Lakefield, located at 90 Concession Street. This program runs on the third Saturday of every month until Spring 2019.

Bridgenort­h United

Bridgenort­h United Church will have a Great Ham Feast on Oct. 27 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the church, located at 832 Charles St. in Bridgenort­h.

Tickets are available at the door, or in advance from the church or Bell’s Garage in Bridgenort­h. Tickets cost $15 for adults, $7 for children ages 5 to 13, and children age 4 and under eat for free. 4 and under free. To reserve tickets, call the church at 705 292 9601. Takeout will also be available.

Fairview United Church

Fairview United Church will be having a ham dinner on Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. at the church. Tickets for adults are $15 each, and for children ages 6-12 tickets are $5 each, and there is no charge for preschoole­rs. For reservatio­ns, call 705-742-1328. The church is located at 724 Centre Line.
