Lions Club hosting Chuckwagon Dinner in Omemee

The Omemee Lions Club Chuckwagon dinner will be held at Coronation Hall on Saturday.

There will be a silent auction, entertainm­ent by the Mitchell family and a family pumpkin carving competitio­n. To participat­e in the competitio­n, bring your carved pumpkin to the hall for judging by the diners.

Cost of the dinner is $15; children 10 yrs and under, $8. Proceeds of the evening will benefit paediatric cancer programs in the area.

Trestle bridge closed

If you are a hiker, walker or biker who enjoys using the Kawartha Trans Canada trail you should be aware that the trestle bridge near Orange Corners will be undergoing major refurbishm­ent. The wooden deck of the bridge is rotting and will be replaced with composite materials. To complete the renovation­s, the bridge will be closed to all traffic from Oct. 15-Nov.30.

Fall events

There will be a Fall Vendors Market at the Centre, 15 James

St. N., Oct. 27, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. featuring Younlove, Chocoholic Delights, Thirty One, Olive Cedar, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, The Omemee Antique Shop and doTerra. Cost is $2 or a donation of a non-perishable food item for the Food bank.

The arrival of fall means Omemee Lioness apple pies are back on the menu. Order your pies from Lioness Barb 705-799-5911 at a cost of only $8.

Bethel United Church will hold its annual turkey buffet dinner, Oct. 27, 4-7 p.m. in the accessible church, 90 Bethel Rd., north of Hwy 7. Cost is $18 for adults; children, 6-12 yrs, $6; 5 yrs and under free, no advance tickets, purchase at the door. Takeout dinners are also available. For informatio­n call 705-740-1156.

Janetville United Church will be holding a pumpkin carving evening, Oct. 24, 6-8 p.m. No cost to participat­e. There will be a Hallowe’en Open House and Candy giveaway, Oct. 31, 5-7:30 pm

The Joyfull Noise group will be at Janetville United, 712 Janetville Rd., Saturday. The choir who performs lively music of the ’50s – ’80s will be presenting a two-hour concert beginning at 7 p.m. Adults, $15; children under 12, free.

Light refreshmen­ts and fellowship to follow the concert. Tickets are available from church members or by calling the office at 705-324-2006.

Community care

The Community Care of City of Kawartha Lakes offers many invaluable services to the residents of our area. The office number is 705-324-7323.

The Seniors’ Diners’ Club will be held Nov. 1, noon at Christ Church Anglican, 62 King St. E. in conjunctio­n with the Omemee Lioness. Call the office if you would like to reserve a seat.

Footcare is available to seniors and residents with special needs. An appointmen­t is necessary and can be made by calling 705-8794100 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The clinic is held at Remedy RX, 108 Kent St.W., Lindsay. Clinics are Mondays and Tuesdays.

Meals on Wheels are available at a nominal cost for residents of Omemee and Downeyvill­e.
