Police carry out excavation in cold case

Durham Regional Police carried out an excavation near Bowmanvill­e Thursday in connection with a missing persons case, but no new evidence was discovered. Noreen Greenley, 13, disappeare­d from Bowmanvill­e on Sept. 14, 1963. Originally investigat­ed by the Bowmanvill­e Police Department, the case was reopened by the Durham Regional Police homicide unit in 2005. Police say new informatio­n has been received.

The excavation, which took place at Highway 57 and Concession Road, yielded no new evidence, police reported Thursday afternoon. Two seven-foot-deep trenches were dug, one about 50 metres long and the other about 30 metres long, with metal detectors used to scan another one metre below that.
