Police carry out excavation in cold case
Durham Regional Police carried out an excavation near Bowmanville Thursday in connection with a missing persons case, but no new evidence was discovered. Noreen Greenley, 13, disappeared from Bowmanville on Sept. 14, 1963. Originally investigated by the Bowmanville Police Department, the case was reopened by the Durham Regional Police homicide unit in 2005. Police say new information has been received.
The excavation, which took place at Highway 57 and Concession Road, yielded no new evidence, police reported Thursday afternoon. Two seven-foot-deep trenches were dug, one about 50 metres long and the other about 30 metres long, with metal detectors used to scan another one metre below that.
