Minor Bantam AAA Petes improve to 3-0 at Icefest tourney

The Peterborou­gh Ben Smith Sells Minor Bantam AAA Petes are unbeaten after two days of the Boston Pizza Icefest AAA Hockey Tournament.

The Petes improved to 3-0 with a 6-0 win over Sudbury’s Nickel City Sons on Friday morning followed by a 3-2 afternoon victory over the Southern Tier Admirals.

They’ll face the Niagara North Stars at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Evinrude Centre (atom pad) to close out pool play.

After moving to 2-0 Thursday night with a 4-1 win over Ottawa Myers, the BP Peterborou­gh Major Bantam Petes suffered their first loss Friday afternoon 4-3 to the Ontario Hockey Academy Mavericks.

The Major Bantam Petes’ fourth and final game in pool play was at 8:30 p.m. Friday against the Guelph Gryphons. A score was not available at press time.

The Billy Smith Sells Major Peewee Petes split their Friday games to sit 2-2 after pool play. They lost to the Nickel City Sons 3-1 on Friday afternoon and rebounded to beat the Brampton 45’s 3-2 Friday night.

The 48-team, three-division tournament runs through Sunday at four arenas in Peterborou­gh and Norwood.

Playoff games will begin Saturday afternoon with all three finals on Sunday at the Evinrude Centre (atom pad) at 1, 3 and 5 p.m.
