Pot growers tied up by armed men: Police

- KAWARTHA LAKES THIS WEEK

Four workers of a legal outdoor marijuana grow-op near Beaverton were robbed by five men carrying guns on Thursday morning, police say.

Durham Regional Police say the five men with guns approached the group of workers at the Concession Road 4 and Highway 12-area grow-op at about 6 a.m. Police say the workers were forced into a security trailer and were tied up.

Their personal belongings were taken and the men made off with several garbage bags full of dried marijuana from a storage barn. They fled the property in a vehicle stolen from one of the workers, police say.

The workers were not able to work themselves free until about four hours later and call police. Officers arrived and searched the area, but no arrests were made. The stolen vehicle was located parked a distance away, police say.

One of the suspects is described as a white male, about 40 to 45 years old, with short grey hair and a French accent. Police say he is about 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weights about 140 lbs.

A second suspect is described as a white male, about 32 to 35 years old, with short black hair and a full beard. He is about 5feet, 10-inches tall and weighs about 150 lbs. Police say he was wearing a ski mask.

No description was given for the other three suspects.
