Popular ’70s folk group reuniting for show

Kevin Morris puts the band back together for benefit

Members of the Kevin Morris folk group are reuniting for a good cause.

During the 1970s, the Kevin Morris folk group played music at the Immaculate Conception Church Saturday Night Folk masses. They also performed at weddings, baptisms, celebratio­ns of life and played at local events.

The group will perform Oct. 27 at 7 pm at Immaculate Conception Church on Rogers Street. The evening is titled Rebuilding the Earth.

Group members are Kevin Morris, Terry McCuaig, Carmel (Garvey) Bissonnett­e, Sheila (Sheils) Crook, Liz (Garvey) McLean, Julie (Wood) Whiteman and John Soch.

The program includes a selection from the Building the Earth album, some '70s favourites and contempora­ry songs.

Also performing will be Steve Lynch, 4 Front (Terry Finn, Norma Curtis, Sheila Prophet and Theresa Foley), and The Misfits (a vocal band with Tom Cullen, Greg Brown and members of the St. Peter's Choir.

This is a free event. Donations are welcome and are earmarked for the Immaculate Conception parish accessibil­ity renovation fund.

At the Guild

Play Reading: Award-winning Venezuelan playwright Gustavo Ott is coming to Peterborou­gh for the reading of his play Miss and Madam at the Peterborou­gh Theatre Guild, slated for Oct. 28, starting at 7 p.m.

A question and answer period follows the reading. Admission is free.

Miss and Madam explores the epic rivalry between beauty industry icons Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden, who became the two richest women in the world.

The reading takes place in the Gwen Brown studio. The event is free and open to the community. Guests are asked use the stage door.

Acting Techniques Workshop: The PTG presents a workshop in the Meisner technique for advanced actors, lead by Randy Read.

The session runs Nov. 3 and Nov. 4 starting at 10 a.m. at 364 Rogers St. in the Gwen Brown studio.

The system was created by Sanford Meisner, who developed specific exercises to cultivate an actor's ability to free up their instincts, build trust between actors and work in an improv setting to give an authentic performanc­e.

Learn to live as your character. Through simple exercises Meisner developed, the actor learns how to live through the character he is playing and bring that character to life.

Horticultu­ral Society

This gardening group meets Oct. 24, 7 p.m. at the Peterborou­gh Lions Community Centre, 347 Burnham St.

Joe & Hazel Cook from Blossom Hill Nursery will speak on What's the Buzz: Bee Amazed.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. You can check out a meeting as a guest for $2. Activities include plant sales, hands-on workshops, and flower & photograph­y competitio­ns and a lending library of gardening books.

Howl'oween Party

The Peterborou­gh Humane Society hosts a costume party for pets happening Saturday, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the shelter, 385 Lansdowne St. E.

There will be face painting, treats, colouring contest for kids, and a costume contest. Face painting is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and costume judging is at 1:15 p.m.
