Max’s Cabaret, Wearable Art Show team up
Evening of music, fashion and more benefits Public Energy
Max’s Cabaret returns to Peterborough Saturday night. The annual showcase, created by the city’s own Max Price, features local musical and performing artists from the Peterborough community, while raising money for a local cause. The cause this year, as with last, is Public Energy, an organization which produces performing arts.
In the tradition of Public Energy’s Wearable Art Shows, Price has invited artists to contribute original pieces of wearable artwork to be paraded down a runway. This Public Energy fashion show has been happening since 2011. However, it was organized by Max last year, and sold out. So Price has booked more seating to accommodate more people.
Like the Wearable Art Shows, there will be a Runway Challenge.
A new format is being introduced: The 48-Hour Runway Challenge. Just 48 hours before the event, select artists will make wearable arts out of random objects. The objects will range from used goods to random materials. The challengers for this year are Dreda Blow, Bruno Merz, Mel McCall, and Bradly Boyle.
Joining these challengers are artists who have spent longer time and planning crafting articles of wearable art specifically for Max’s Cabaret. These artists are Dawna Greenham, Berlynn Ellis, Kathryn Bahun, Hartley Stephenson, Marilyn O’Connor and Max Price.
The wearable art will be sharing the stage with performance artists. These artists include dancers Nicole Malbeuf, Sarah Rudnicki, Lindsay Haacke, Heather Kenny, and Corrine Maynard; spoken word artist Katherine Heigh; live music with Chester Babcock, Justin Hiscox, Judy Jordan, and Matt Allen; singers Carolyn Kay and Cheyenne Buck and burlesque performer Naomi Duvall.
The event will be held at the Mount Community Centre at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $20 in advance by going online to www.publicenergy.ca or calling 705-7451788, or at the door for $25.
