Man accused of assaulting Brinks guard downtown
A 27-year-old man has been charged with assault and breaching a condition of an undertaking following an incident involving a Brinks security guard. On Wednesday at about 11 p.m., a Brinks truck was stopped in the area of George and Simcoe streets, city police said, and the male guard exited the vehicle to do his work.
A man approached the guard and became confrontational and threatening toward him, making him feel that he was going to be assaulted, police said
Police were called and the man then fled the area.
Officers arrived and arrested a man in the area.
Jonathan Christian Gifford, 27, of Wolfe Street, was charged with assault and failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking after officers detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath while he was on a condition to not consume alcohol.
