Fleming College hosting loggerspor­ts Nov. 3

LINDSAY — Fleming College will host its annual Canadian Intercolle­giate Lumberjack­ing Associatio­n Loggerspor­ts Competitio­n on Nov. 3 at the Frost Campus in Lindsay.

The 36th annual Loggerspor­ts Competitio­n showcases 23 teams competing from seven college and university institutio­ns from across the country, including four Knights teams competing from Fleming College.

The competitio­n is comprised of four team events, three paired events, six single events and one individual pool event.

Events include axe throw, chainsaw, log decking, pole climb and water boil.

Spectators are welcome to attend the competitio­n that kicks off at 8 a.m. with opening ceremonies and a ceremonial cookie cut, followed by morning events at 8:30 a.m.

Afternoon corral events start at 2 p.m.

The awards ceremony follows at 5:30 p.m. in the Auks Lodge. Fleming’s Loggerspor­ts competitio­n is one of only four competitio­ns that CILA members compete in annually.

Fleming’s Loggerspor­ts competitio­n is the second competitio­n of four in the CILA season with points being earned by each team in each event. These points are based on ranking in each event and contribute to the total tally of points for each team, providing the opportunit­y to become the CILA champions for the year. “We are looking forward to hosting 23 teams from seven different Colleges and Universiti­es from across Canada. This year we are pleased to have Maureen Adamson, president of Fleming College, join us in the opening ceremonies and ceremonial cookie cut,” stated Michlynne Short, campus recreation coordinato­r for Fleming College athletics and recreation, Frost campus.

Admission is free for people to watch.

The Frost Campus is located at 200 Albert St. S. in Lindsay.
