Isaac preparing to take bite out of crime
Peterborough Police Const. Bob Cowie took his new partner Isaac for a walk with Rotary Club of Peterborough-Kawartha members on Friday morning.
The new police dog was introduced at an announcement at city police headquarters of an upcoming online Christmas auction, hosted by the Kawartha Rotary club, to raise funds to help pay for the purchase and training of Isaac.
The goal of the campaign is to raise $28,000, officials announced Friday.
The Rotary Christmas Auction runs from Nov. 19 to Dec. 3.
Last year’s Rotary auction helped to fund the new Rotary Outdoor Gym at Beavermead Park.
The two current city police dogs, Wolfe, partnered with Const. Tim Fish, and Hal, partnered with Const. Sam McCullen are about to retire.
Replacing them will be Isaac and Chase, who is partnered with Const. Kyle Adey.
The new dogs are undergoing 15 weeks of training at the police dog training academy in Niagara-on-the-Lake before beginning duty early in the new year.
Police dogs track people, locate drugs, search buildings, help with search warrants and are trained to bite when needed.
