- NAOMI STOCK naomi.stock@gmail.com

The Bicycle Museum launches Friday at B!KE, Peterborough’s Community Cycling Hub, located at 293 George St. An opening reception of this pop-up project takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. Tammy Thorne, the curator of The Bicycle Museum will be in attendance and refreshments will be served.

The Bicycle Museum, a project by Dandyhorse Media, features historical images of bicycles and explores the history of the Peterborough Cycling Club, the importance of bicycles during wartime, the history of the high wheel bicycle and bicycle racing, and Peterborough’s original bike shops. A high wheel bicycle will also be on display.

Peterborough has a long bicycle history. It hosted the first ever provincial meet of the Canadian Wheelman’s Association on July 1, 1898. Amateur and professional cyclists competed for titles in 17 different categories, including half-mile, two-mile tandem and three-mile team races.

The Bicycle Museum will be hosted by B!KE for the month of November. It moves to the Peterborough Public Library, 345 Aylmer St., in December.

Museum organizers would like to hear from members of the public who know more about the images in The Bicycle Museum exhibits or who have a bicycle history story to share. Please email bicyclemuseumptbo@gmail.com or write in the comment book at the pop-up events.
