Spooky night at Sadleir House for festival

- CAROLINE MCCONNELL Northcrest_column@yahoo.ca

The Spooky Sadleir Open House and Halloween Bazaar happens Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. This event is a part of the Borderless Music & Arts Festival 2018 taking place in various venues throughout the downtown area from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4.

Trick-or-treaters (and their escorts) are invited to explore the historic Sadleir House. The main floor will be decorated with various offices giving out candy until 8 p.m. Upstairs in the Dining Hall there will be a cash bar, snacks, board games, and scary movies.

From 5 until 8 p.m. the Borderless Bazaar takes place in the fully-accessibly Hobbs Library, with over a dozen vendors selling seasonal crafts and treasures, tarot readings, bake sale, art exhibition, and other spooky surprises.

At 8 p.m. Trent Film Society will screen the George A. Romero classic Night of The Living Dead with a live soundtrack. Instead of playing the audio from the film, there will be subtitles and a soundtrack created by local talent, including garbageface, Olias, Cold Eye, Paulabulus, people you meet outside of bars, and Mortise (Léanne Irène and Dan Beecher).

Entry is $8 at the door or free with a Borderless Music & Arts Festival wristband also available at the door for $30 or $20 for students.

Borderless Festival

Additional Borderless Music & Arts Festival events are happening at Sadleir House Thursday and Sunday.

RC4G is offering two workshops Thursday: a basic do-ityourself home recording workshop from 2 until 3:30 p.m. and a drum workshop from 4 until 5 p.m. Later the workshop leaders will deliver a cross-collaborative performance, starting at 7:45 p.m. with poetry by Yumna Leghari, followed by Peachykine, SHIRAZI, and Satah Cameron from people you meet outside of bars.

On Sunday, enjoy an afternoon of tea and music for the soul from 1 until 6 p.m. featuring Little Fire, Rakkatak, PIQSIQ, Greyson Gritt, Tea Room, and Sleepy Slap. There will also be drawing activities. The music ranges from cabin folk rock, sub-arctic blues, and Inuit throat singing to indie pop, dreamy guitar duos and Indian tabla fusion.

All shows are $10 at the door or free with a borderless festival pass that costs $30 or $20 for students. Kids under 14 are free. Passes are available at the door, Dreams of Beans Café or online at eventbrite.ca

All money raised from the festival goes to supporting the artists. For a complete listing of all festival shows and activities visit the Borderless Music & Arts Festival 2018 page on Facebook.

There are still a few seats available for Activity Haven’s Dec. 2 bus trip to Lindsay to see The Living Christmas Tree, but tickets must be reserved and paid for this week. Prior to the performance, the bus stops at the Christmas craft show at the Lindsay Exhibition Grounds followed by a hot buffet lunch at Pizza Hut and shopping at Lindsay Square Mall.

The cost is $47 which includes lunch. Call 705-876-1670 for more information.

Coffee and Tea

It’s getting colder and One Roof Community Centre is having trouble keeping up with the demand for hot drinks. They need coffee, tea, creamer and sugar. If you can help, please drop off donations at 99 Brock St. between noon and 7 p.m.
