Spiplex Sports Dome indoor sports complex up for sale
Owners of facility in Fowlers Corners retiring; all winter contracts to be honoured
FOWLERS CORNERS — The Lions Spiplex Sports Dome on Highway 7 south of Fowlers Corners is for sale for $2.5 million.
Realtor Alket Kulla of Re/Max Eastern Realty has the listing. The property was just put up for sale last week, he said.
“It’s a very exciting listing for us – it’s as unique as they come,” Kulla said.
The Spiplex is an athletic complex that includes a 25,000-square-foot air-supported dome, clubhouse and two outdoor soccer pitches.
The complex was built in 2006 and sits on more than eight acres of land.
The dome has artificial turf, which is ideal year-round for sports such as soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, ultimate frisbee and golf, the listing states.
The Peterborough Ultimate League meets at Spiplex, and there are also lacrosse and soccer camps there during March Break.
There’s also an indoor driving range and a pro shop at Spiplex.
All the winter contracts will be honoured at the facility, Kulla said.
Although he wouldn’t say why the owners are selling, the Peterborough Ultimate League website states they are retiring.
The facility is busy in winter: Peterborough City Soccer Association has winter training for its Soccer Academy there through the winter, and the East Central Ontario Soccer Association uses the Spiplex for winter training too.
There’s also an indoor driving range that reopens for the winter season in January, according to the Spiplex website.
Other recent events at Spiplex have included qualifying bocce tournaments for Special Olympics.
The owners cared a lot about getting the facility built and started, Kulla said, and want to see it continue as their legacy.
“We hope it grows and develops,” he said.
