TWEED — A crowdfunding effort has raised more than $7,000 to help a family of three left homeless by a Tuesday fire in Tweed, about 95 kilometres east of Peterborough.

Some 82 people had raised $7,185 toward a $5,000 goal for LeSage’s Lose All in House Fire at www.gofundme.com as of mid-afternoon Thursday — the same day the page was created for Mark and Lisa LeSage and their daughter Anastasia.

“Lisa and Mark have been valued community members in the town of Tweed, Ontario for many, many years, and have contributed to the promotion and wellness of Tweed and its people for just as long,” the page creator, Team Tweed, wrote.

“We as a community would like to step up and offer the help and love that you (Mark and Lisa) have always given us, and this is one way to do that.”

Financial donations will help the family with immediate needs, such as food and accommodations, the page states.

Those who can help in other ways are encouraged to contact the Tweed Elvis Festival Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TweedElvis Festival/ to find out where to drop off clothing and other items.

The blaze caused an estimated $350,000 in damage to the twostorey Isaac Street home, Inquinte.ca reported.
