The Peterborough Petes got what they deserved Thursday night.

It took 51 shots and 38 seconds of overtime for the Petes to secure a 3-2 win over the Oshawa Generals.

Pavel Gogolev snapped a shot top shelf from the bottom of the faceoff circle to even the season series before the two teams at 2-2. The Petes outshot Oshawa 51-21 but a late goalie by Oshawa forced the extra period.

The Petes (10-7-0) moved two points ahead of the Generals (8-5-2) for fourth place in the OHL’s Eastern Conference. The Petes’ only other game this week is at 7 p.m. Friday on the road to the Kingston Frontenacs.

Declan Chisholm assisted on all three Petes goals in front of 2,797 fans at the Memorial Centre.

The Petes had a chance to go in front in the opening two minutes when Adam Timleck drilled a shot off the crossbar on a two-onone rush.

Less than a minute later Oshawa scored the lone goal of the opening period as newcomer Kyle Bollers tallied on his first shot as a General. Bollers was picked up after recording 27 points in 19 games for the OJHL’s Aurora Tigers.

A Petes turnover led to Nick Wong feeding a wide open Bollers at the far side of the net. Bollers had 21 points over two seasons with the Saginaw Spirit who received a 12th round draft pick from Oshawa for his rights.

Chris Paquette tied the game 30 seconds into the second firing a shot off the rush over Kyle Keyser’s outstretched pad.

Liam Kirk and Chisholm assisted.

It was a goal Keyser might want to have back but he more than made up for it the rest of the period. He held his team in the game as the Petes ran up a 21-1 edge in shots through 17 minutes of the second but couldn’t buy another goal.

Both goalies came up big in the minute after the tying goal. Keyser stretched to rob Nick Isaacson point blank off a Timleck pass. At the other end, Hunter Jones, making his 15th start in 17 games, robbed Cole Resnick off a pass from Wong.

Oshawa survived back-toback Petes power plays where the best chances were shots that

were just wide or over the net.

Keyser stopped Chad Denault in tight and then reacted quickly to stop Jake Partridge on the rebound. Keyser stretched to glove a Chisholm point shot on a Petes flurry.

Cole Fraser sprawled to sweep away a scoring chance from Oshawa’s Serron Noel nine minutes into the third period.

Keyser made a pair of tough stops off Liam Kirk in the third period and off the second one Paquette ripped the rebound off the crossbar.

The Petes finally broke

through with 4:24 left when Isaacson poked home Chisholm’s rebound. Chisholm was persistent on the puck to circle the Oshawa net and get the shot off.

Oshawa wouldn’t go away. Nando Eggenberger one-timed William Ennis’ pass, after a Petes giveaway, 2:07 later forcing overtime.

NOTES: The three stars were 1. Chris Paquette (P); 2. Kyle Keyser (O); 3. Pavel Gogolev (P).… The hardest working Pete was Declan Chisholm.
