Sinopoli named Ottawa Redblacks top Canadian nominee

-

Peterborough native Brad Sinopoli was named Wednesday as the Ottawa Redblacks nominee for the Canadian Football League’s Top Canadian Player award. In voting by the Football Reporters of Canada and the CFL’s head coaches, the division finalists will be announced next Thursday. The CFL will honour its top performers at its annual awards banquet Nov. 22 in Edmonton.

The slotback, a graduate of Crestwood Secondary School, set a new CFL record on Saturday with 116 catches, the most by a Canadian player in a CFL season.

He has had more than 1,000 receiving yards each season for four seasons in a row.

Sinopoli won the CFL’s most outstanding Canadian award for his 2015 season. Sinopoli is being rested Friday night when the Redblacks face the Toronto Argonauts since Ottawa has already qualified to advance to the CFL East Division final game.
