Two arrested after scuffle at downtown bar

A 22-year-old Scarborough, Ontario man and a 23-year-old Markham man have been charged with assault following a scuffle early Thursday morning at a George Street North nightclub.

Shortly before 2 a.m., two men assaulted a woman at the downtown Peterborough nightclub, city police said.

Security staff intervened and one of the men was escorted out of the nightclub while the other left, police said.

Once outside the man then assaulted two nightclub staff before fleeing the scene, police said. Following a short foot chase, the man was caught and placed under arrest, police said.

The other man was located by police still in the area of the nightclub.

City police did not say at which nightclub it happened.

Johnic Charles, 22, of Tapscott Road, Scarborough, was charged with three counts of assault.

Luke Wilmot, 23, of Elson Street, Markham, was charged with assault.

Both men were released from custody and are to appear in court Nov. 29.
