Trent University is expanding its forensic science program.

Students can now study to receive a bachelor of science in forensic chemistry or a bachelor of science in forensic biology and specialization in law and policing, officials stated, adding that this new development will provide students with career-boosting opportunities.

Students in these programs have a chance to participate with federal organizations via placements intended to help students build their real world experience, as well as help them make professional connections, officials stated.

While not at placements, students will be taught things such as intensive theory and innovative practice in law, bloodstain pattern analysis, analytical characterization of evidence, and DNA techniques and applications.

The programs are widely varied. The forensic biology program offers an in depth biology education, and then teaches to apply those theories practically in crime scenes and criminal investigations. The forensic chemistry program educates its students thoroughly on forensic chemical analysis, giving them hands-on experience on all different parts of chemistry.

Students can also specialize in law and policing. The course cluster that can be added to any forensic science degree, officials stated. Those who choose it focus greatly on the application of forensic principles and technique within our legal system, crime scenes, and policing.
