Weekly cruise nights raise more than $22,000

- ELIZABETH PEETERS

Fundraising is a big part of the Lions Clubs and our clubs are no different. The Fowlers Corners and District Club held weekly Cruise Nights and raised more than $22,000. Five charities: Five Counties’ Children’s Centre, Brock Mission Peterborough, Peterborough Hospice, Lions’ Home for Deaf People and Lions’ Camp Kirk recently received donations as a result.

The Lions held a special Cruise Night on July 19 for juvenile diabetes, where $12,000 was raised. This total was divided equally between the PRHC for juvenile monitoring equipment and Diabetes Canada to assist local children attend Camp Huronda to learn how to manage their diabetes.

The Omemee Lions Club is in the midst of a new campaign to assist the Lavelle family. Jennifer has severe spina bifida, requires 24 hour care and is confined to her bed and wheelchair. She requires a special high-tech mattress at a cost of $5,000. A local supplier has been found and the Lions are heading up a fundraising campaign. Donation boxes can be found at the TD Canada Trust branch, Countryside Pharmacy, Darling Insurance and Omemee Foodland. Donations can also be mailed to the Lions Club, Attention Jennifer Lavelle fund, Box 188, Omemee K0L 2W0 or given to Lion Shannon Brohm, Manager of the Omemee Service Centre, Coronation Hall.
