Trent rowers win gold, silver, bronze at nationals

The Trent Excalibur rowing team brought home three medals – a gold, silver and bronze – from the Canadian University Rowing Championsh­ips hosted by the Brock Badgers at the Henley Island course in St Catharines.

Spencer Kielar and Grace VandenBroe­k both continued their successful inaugural university seasons showing the future is bright for the Excalibur. Kielar scored gold in the men’s lightweigh­t single with a seven second victory in 7:29:200. He also earned a silver in the lightweigh­t double alongside senior Dayton Kelly.

VandenBroe­k earned a bronze medal in the women’s single.

The Excalibur men’s heavyweigh­t eight placed fifth. The crew includes Kelly, Wesley Penny, Dylan Coletto, Daniel Bullock, Ian Holmquist, Matthew Dupuis, Shane Willis, Jordan Hamilton and coxswain Hailey Guertin.

The women’s eight placed sixth consisting of Tasmin West, Elizabeth Trickey, Paige Burns, Hannah Curtis, Lexi Armstrong, VandenBroe­k, Bri Tombs, Christine Duifus and Megan Benn.
