Researcher, innovator Bill Buxton to speak
Adventurer named 2018 Jack Matthews Fellow
Researcher and innovator and 2018 Jack Matthews Fellow Bill Buxton will speak as part of a series of events hosted by the Canadian Canoe Museum, Lakefield College School and Trent University next week.
The principal researcher for Microsoft Research and outdoor adventurer is an advocate for innovation and design and his talks explore the intersection of his interests, organizers stated in a press release.
Buxton will speak at the Canadian Canoe Museum on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. Admission to ‘Watap Holds More Than Canoes Together: An Ongoing Journey of Connection, Conversation and Creative Design’ is by donation.
He will also speak at Trent’s Champlain College North M2 Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. Admission to ‘The History of the Future: Now That We Can Do Anything, What Should We Do?’ is free.
Buxton will also be sharing his expertise with students and faculty members at Lakefield College School through a presentation and classroom visits.
“Bill Buxton is a world authority on design and innovation. His opinion is sought by thought leaders on every continent,” museum director of external relations James Raffan stated. “And he just happens to count canoes and canoeing among his passions.”
The Jack Matthews Fellowship was created in 2008 to honour the pivotal role he played at The Canadian Canoe Museum, Lakefield College School and Trent University.
Through this fellowship, the three partner institutions come together to bring to the Peterborough community a Matthews Fellow who embodies their values, and the legendary spirit of Canadian global citizenship behind the late Jack Matthews’ vision, officials stated.
Past fellows include Aaju Peter (2017), Dalal Al Waheidi (2016) and Wab Kinew (2015).
