Shoplifting suspect charged with assaulting store security officer

A Charlotte Street store security officer stopped a shoplifting suspect Sunday at about 12:30 p.m., but she allegedly assaulted the employee before being held for police.

Kayla Mackenzie Pigeon, 18, of Rutherford Avenue, was charged with theft under $5,000, assault with intent to resist arrest and failing to comply with a probation order.

She was held in custody and appeared in court Monday.

The items were recovered and the store employee was not injured, police reported.
