Winner can choose between Chevrolet Cruze, Trax or Spark

The New Vehicle Draw in support of the Peterborough and District Sports Hall of Fame is back for its 31st year.

Tickets for the draw went on sale Tuesday after organizers announced draw details at the Hall of Fame in the Peterborough Memorial Centre.

This year, Jack McGee Peterborough has three vehicles to choose from: a 2019 Chevy Cruze, a 2019 Chevy Spark and a 2019 Chevy Trax.

The draw is one of the hall’s two major fundraisers, along with a golf tournament, supporting its operational costs, such as building maintenance and insurance.

Steve Casey, New Vehicle Draw committee chairman, said it costs between $30,000 to $35,000 a year to run the hall.

“We do not receive any funding from the City of Peterborough, so it takes a lot to operate the Hall of Fame,” Casey said.

The hall opened in the city 39 years ago. The draw launched a several years later.

Tickets for the event are limited to 3,000 and they’re $20 apiece.

“It’s great odds, better than a lotto. And they make great stocking stuffers for Christmas,” Casey said.

The draw takes place March 16 during the Peterborough Petes game at the Memorial Centre.

Before the vehicle draw, there are a dozen preliminary draws for cash prizes.

At 7:30 p.m., there’ll be two draws of $500 each and 10 draws of $100 each.

The winning names are then re-entered into the main draw, which is called between the second and third period of the game.

If all 3,000 tickets sell, that’s $60,000 overall.

Funds are used to purchase the vehicle and proceeds from ticket sales benefit the hall.

Casey chuckled thinking back to last year’s winner.

“When the lady won, she was quite ecstatic … lots of screaming.”

Tickets are available at nearly 25 businesses in the area and at the Peterborough and District Hall of Fame. The hall is open on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon and during Petes games.
