Ontario Premier Doug Ford will join Peterborough Special Olympian Chrystal Cochrane, along with Peterborough Police Service Chief Scott Gilbert, for a ceremonial puck drop Thursday night at the Memorial Centre.

Ford will take in Special Olympics Night, an awareness campaign that is part of an ongoing campaign by the Ontario Hockey League, Peterborough Petes and Special Olympics Ontario.

He will also interact with fans throughout the evening, according to a release from the Petes.

The Petes are facing the Owen Sound Attack in a 7:05 p.m. start.

On April 6, Ford received a Peterborough Petes jersey from Peterborough-Kawartha candidate Dave Smith at a preelection rally at the Kinsmen Civic Centre in Peterborough. The custom jersey had No. 18 with “PC Win” as the name on the back.

Ford went on to sweep to power in the June 6 provincial election, with Smith ousting four-term Liberal MPP Jeff Leal.

At Thursday’s Petes game, a first intermission bucket pass will support Special Olympics Ontario.

A second intermission chuck-a-puck will support the Trent University women’s rugby team.
