The Peterborough Petes bent again but this time didn’t break.

Brady Hinz’s goal 1:54 into overtime lifted the Petes past the Owen Sound Attack after blowing a 3-0 lead before 2,380 fans at the Memorial Centre on Thursday night.

Adam Timleck’s natural hat trick paced the Petes to a 3-0 advantage. After blowing a third period lead in their last game the Petes came close to doing it again.

This time Hinz snapped Declan Chisholm’s drop pass through goalie Mack Guzda’s legs to snap a two-game losing streak. The Petes (12-9-0) also snapped a three-game winning streak for Owen Sound (12-7-3).

The Petes head onto the road for games in London on Friday night and Sarnia on Saturday.

The Petes’ beleaguered power play struck on its first opportunity to give the home side a 1-0 lead 7:06 into the game. Chisholm drilled a point shot on Guzda who stopped the shot and Hinz off the rebound but Timleck knocked in a second rebound.

After killing off their first penalty the Petes came close at the other end. Chisholm’s shot deflected to a wide open Hinz and Guzda did the splits to snare the puck with four minutes left in the first.

Chisholm and Timleck nearly teamed up again early in the second period. The defenceman pinched deep into the attack zone and centred the puck to Timleck at the edge of the crease and Guzda blocked his shot before the Petes’ forward was ambushed by multiple defenders.

Timleck didn’t miss when he got his next opportunity at 7:34. Pavel Gogolev made some shifty moves to get past a check and filtered a pass to Timleck who chipped the puck in as he was knocked into the Attack net.

Gogolev had a partial breakaway on his next shift and beat Guzda with the shot but it sailed over the net. At the other end Petes’ goalie Hunter Jones, making his 19th start in 21 games, made a sharp save on Daylon Groulx.

Gogolev was the instigator again on Timleck’s third goal as he forced a turnover then threw a puck in front that found Timleck on the back door for a tap-in at 14:41.

Owen Sound’s fourth line got the Attack on the board with 1:13 left in the second period. Griffin Wilson fired a shot on the rush that rolled up over Jones’ pad.

The Attack made it a one-goal game 56 seconds into the third period as Kaleb Pearson backhanded Brady Lyle’s rebound over Jones.

Semyon Der-Arguchintsev and Gogolev were on for both goals against and found themselves benched for the next eight minutes.

The Attack momentum kept rolling with Aidan Dudas setting up Maksim Sushko in the slot at 8:17 tying it 3-3. The play started when Austin Osmanski failed to clear the puck.

Jones bailed his team out with

7:30 left when he robbed Dudas after Cole Fraser turned the puck over.

NOTES: Ontario Premier Doug Ford got a rousing but mixed reaction when he was introduced for a ceremonial faceoff prior to the game as part of Special Olympics Night at the PMC. There was a healthy mix of boos and cheers. Petes fans donated $1,700 to Special Olympics Ontario…. With eight healthy defencemen for the first time in 19 games the Petes had tough decisions on who to scratch. Adrien Beraldo and Cameron Supryka were the choices on Thursday. Nick Robertson (wrist) will miss all three games

this weekend. Zach Gallant (leg) is out until the new year.… The three stars were 1. Adam Timleck (P); 2. Brady Lyle (O); 3. Pavel Gogolev (P)… The hardest working Pete was John Parker-Jones.
