GreenUP launches school travel planning project
Peterborough GreenUP has launched a new School Travel Planning Project in the city and county.
The project, announced Thursday at Immaculate Conception School in East City, is aimed at addressing traffic congestion in school zones, as well as promoting active transportation (cycling, walking).
The goal is to promote safer streets and help kids learn responsibility, organizers state. On hand were Clifford Maynes, executive director of Green Communities Canada (a financial supporter of the program, along with the province), with Ashburnham Ward councillors Keith Riel and Gary Baldwin and GreenUP executive director Brianna Salmon and Grade 8 student Shawn Fitzgerald, who spoke on behalf of a student-led Be Active team at the school.
Project partners include the city and county, Crossing Guards of Peterborough and the Catholic school board.
