HAVELOCK — Peterborough County OPP are investigating after graffiti was sprayed on buildings in Havelock on Wednesday night. Police issued a press release about the incident: “Often considered to be a nuisance and not worth reporting, if left unchecked graffiti has a negative effect on the reputation of a community,” it states.

“Any writing, symbol or drawing made to any surface without the permission of the owner is considered graffiti. Graffiti is not a victimless crime as property owners are left to pay for the removal of the graffiti from their property.”

Property owners are urged to reduce the risk by increasing lighting around buildings and other areas, installing surveillance cameras and restricting access with fencing or bushes. The OPP is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call 705-742-0401, the non-emergency line 888-310-1122 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800222-8477.
