St. Peter’s COSSA title was the first since 1970

-

The St. Peter’s Saints COSSA AAA junior football victory on Thursday was the school’s first since 1970.

Team officials stated on Thursday it was believed to be the Saints first COSSA football win since 1969 but, in fact, St. Peter’s won back-to-back COSSA junior crowns in 1969 and 1970.

Robin Creeden coached the 1969 Saints to an unbeaten record and COSSA win. The following year Gerry Glover and Phil McCabe coached the junior Saints to another unbeaten year and COSSA title.

St. Peter’s disbanded its football program in 1975 and it was revived in 2001.

The Saints (8-0-1) will play in the Metro Bowl series starting on Tuesday. They will visit the winner of Saturday’s LOSSA final between Oshawa’s Paul Dwyer and Courtice’s Holy Trinity.
