Wingfield playwright to visit local farmers

Dan Needles, the playwright behind the hilarious Wingfield Farm series will be guest speaker at a social for Peterborou­gh County farmers in Keene, Dec. 1.

“Land, Neighbors and the Power of Farmer Thinking: stories and laughter about the place we call home” will be his topic, suitably, as the event is intended to bring Peterborou­gh County farmers together to meet, greet and eat. The Peterborou­gh County Farmer Social runs from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at the OSM Community Centre. For tickets ($25), visit farmsatwor­k.ca or call 705-743-7671.

First World War

The list of names of OSM folk who served in the First World War has grown. Volunteer researcher­s have found 148 from Otonabee and 41 from South Monaghan. The next meeting, on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., will be a continuati­on of last year’s meeting "Faces, Names & Stories of Otonabee-South Monaghan World War I Participan­ts".

Visitors are encouraged to bring any WWI material they would like to share.

Santa parade theme

Favourite Christmas Movie is the theme for the Keene Lions Santa Claus Parade on Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. After the parade enjoy hot chocolate and a visit with Santa, and head over to the Christmas in Keene Bazaar at Keene United Church. Kids can make crafts downstairs. To enter a float, call Marion Burton at 295-6139.

Grinch and dinner

There will be matinée and evening performanc­es of How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Dec. 8 at Keene United Church. The two shows, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. will be followed by Whoville dinners, catered by the Red Door Restaurant of Fergus, Ontario.

Tickets are $20, half price for children and free for kids under six. The event is a production of the Keene Centre for the Arts. Tickets are available at Peachy Keene Café or email Ida.blwgd@outlook.com.

Villiers
