The Peterborough Examiner

Reader says WSIB mistaken on GE

-

I have recently read the letter Mr. Tom Teahen, president and CEO of the WSIB, in the Examiner.

I do not know how long Mr. Teahen has been president but he is mistaken on the matter with General Electric workers.

I am fully aware and understand the 250,000 claims a year is a lot to go through in year. I also know it is not a quick process, but you stated that you want the working public to have confidence in the system for help. There are people who have waited 20 plus years for approval and compensation.

You said in your letter you want everyone to receive the compensation they deserve, maybe you can explain the reason’s behind one person accepted and one person denied that both worked in the same department, doing the same job and getting the exact same illness.

Is the worker that’s denied fairly compensated?

You mentioned about new evidence and new scientific research being used. I’m sorry to say, Mr.Teahen, that Peterborough General Electric has been under the microscope for many years.

My husband has a book of newspaper articles going back over 20 years of the toxins in that factory and the effects they have had on employees plus the environment.

Many people have died waiting to be processed and you want us to have confidence in you and how the WSIB works.

We welcome you to Peterborough and sit down with the former General Electric workers. Believe me when I say, you will have more information for your files than you could imagine, and maybe just maybe, when you start listening and start processing the claims of the hundreds of sick that are still here and the hundreds of widows left behind, then we will have confidence in the WSIB.
