Kinsmen Minor Football awards handed out

The Kinsmen Minor Football League’s 38th season came to an end on Wednesday with their annual awards ceremony at the Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School Auditorium.

Rookies of the Year were Lincoln Landry of the junior TiCats and Andrew Goode of the senior Redblacks. Most Valuable Offensive Lineman was awarded to Reed Lain of the junior TiCats and Rhys Matthews of the senior TiCats.

Defensive Lineman awards went to Santiago Salgado Scott of the junior Redblacks and Shane Loranger of the senior Argos.

Offensive Back trophies went to Zak Friesen of the junior Redblacks and Xavier Parmiter of the Eskimos. Defensive MVP awards went to junior Argo Denton Burkitt-Cross and in the senior division a tie between the Eskimos Jacob Kessler and TiCats MacKenzie Reid.

There was a tie in the Special Teams category with Tyler Moore of the junior Redblacks and Lukasz Bartley-Cormack of the junior TiCats. The senior trophy was awarded to TiCats Matthew Malcolm.

The LaPlante Family Trophy for Most Valuable Player was handed to Cooper Stephenson of the KMFL Junior champion Eskimos and a tie for the senior MVP between league scoring leaders Argo Nate Thomson and Ryan Forsythe of the KMFL senior champion Eskimos. The annual Jim Weaver Awards of Merit went to Nate Harvey of the junior Eskimos and Josh Weil of the senior Redblacks.

The coaches also named their picks for special recognitio­n. For the Argos, Landon Levesque and Yannick Gravel. The TiCats named junior Harlan Parker along with seniors J.J. Condon and Jaxon Hubbert. The Redblacks awarded Matt Goode and Dan Cannon and from the Eskimos Chace Van Allan and Joe Roach. The league also named their Volunteers of the Year, team managers Joelle Weil of the Redblacks, Kim Harvey of the Eskimos, Argos Mark Johnson and TiCats Taya Heigh.

The league also thanked Boston Pizza for their contributi­on of $1,890 from their Celebrity Server Nights at both the Chemong Road and Lansdowne Street restaurant­s. The money will go towards equipment upgrades.
