Artisans’ show benefits Jamaican Self-Help

The 12th annual Artisan Show and Sale takes place Saturday and Sunday at Mark Street United Church, 90 Hunter St., from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday. Twenty per cent of sales will go to support Jamaican Self-Help’s youth and educationa­l projects in Jamaica.

The event will feature the work of over 20 artisans selling quality, hand-crafted items such as weaving; pottery; mixed media paintings; textile and fabric art; knitted, sewn and woven items; beeswax products; metal and wood work; rug hooking; photograph­y; a variety of different types of jewellery and more.

Admission is free. Debit, Visa and Mastercard will be accepted at the sale. For more informatio­n visit www.jshcanada.org.

Vinnies Sale

Vinnies, 799 Erskine Ave., is holding its annual Better & Best Event on Friday.

During this event you can shop for the very best of the donations Vinnies has received throughout the year, including brand new clothing, toys, shoes, purses and more. They will also have lots of great Christmas décor to check out. Money raised by Vinnies goes to the Food Bank.

Please note that in preparatio­n for the sale, the store along with the second location in Lakefield, will close early at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

And as always, remember Vinnies if you are cleaning out your closets. You can drop off your gently used items at the store and receive $5 in Vinnies Bucks that you can then use towards purchases totaling $25 or more.

Winterfest

The 2018 Peterborou­gh Winterfest takes place Thursday through Saturday at Peterborou­gh Square from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day. All raffle proceeds go to Five Counties Children’s Centre.

This free, fun, family event features crafts, entertainm­ent and raffles. Visit the Tree Forest for an opportunit­y to win one of the beautifull­y decorated trees. There will also be home décor items, hand crafted decoration­s, health items, and local food delights to purchase. The kids can have their own fun in the free KidsZone where they can enjoy crafts, games and activities.

East Coast Pub

Foley's East Coast Pub, a fundraiser for the United Way Campaign takes place Sunday at 2 p.m. at Showplace Performanc­e Centre, 290 George St. N.

The show features local musicians performing favourite East Coast songs along with fun and historic stories told by Hugh Foley. Musicians performing include 4 Front (Terry Finn, Theresa Foley, Sheila Prophet and Norma Curtis) with special guests Fiddlin’ Jay Edmunds (fiddle, mandolin, guitar and vocals), Ian Anderson (flute, tin whistle, mandolin, guitar), Ron Kervin (bodhran, percussion), Mark Terry (stand up bass), and Bridget Foley (French vocals).

CHRISTMAS COOKIE WALK: Edmison Heights Baptist Church, 160 Marina Blvd. Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Select cookies by the dozen as you walk by. Shortbread, chocolate macaroons, sugar cookies, peanut butter, and more $5/dozen. Christmas cake and fudge $5 per package. Free coffee and containers.
